In November 2007 a small-scale rescue excavation and reconstruction of a collapsed portion of the clapper bridge at Rahoonagh West, Ballyvourney, Macroom, was undertaken (Excavations 2007, No. 311). Further archaeological works were carried out in June 2010. Damage to the bridge had occurred in the intervening period between the reconstruction and the end of 2009. This phase of work necessitated the realigning of one of the support boulders, and the re-erection of the flat top slabs. In order to provide a new access to the adjacent landowner, a 3m-wide area was opened along the riverbank, upstream from the bridge. The bank was approximately 0.8m high at this point. This was removed under archaeological supervision. No archaeological features were noted. Two holes were dug alongside the public roadway, in order to erect two poles to support a security chain. These were 0.6m in diameter and approximately 0.4m deep. No archaeological features were noted.
