Archaeological sample excavation was carried out at Derrycarhoon copper mine over a one-week period in summer 2010. The site is located north of Ballydehob on the Mizen Peninsula of County Cork. This is a multi-period copper mine, with activity possibly dating to the Bronze Age, late medieval and early modern eras. Three test-trenches were excavated on two separate areas of surface mine spoil, and an infilled trench mine was cored by auger. A large number of stone hammers were recovered, as were samples of wood and peat for radiocarbon dating (results pending).
