The evaluation took place in July 2010 at Mullaghbrack Road, Markethill, Co. Armagh. The site is a subrectangular plot of land measuring approximately 100m north-north-west to south-south-east by 65m west to east.
The site is located in the vicinity of an ecclesiastical site (ARM017-037) which may have had early medieval origins, and it was flagged up as a potential location for associated burials.
Nine trenches were excavated across the site, four of which were excavated by hand. The results show that, although the site may have been subjected to substantial landscaping during the construction of the adjacent road some 30 years ago, possible archaeological cut features survive below levelled material. Undisturbed natural deposits were encountered between 0.4m and 0.7m below present ground level. These comprised two potential pits and a north-north-east/south-south-west running ditch of likely late medieval to early post-medieval date. A modern ditch was also observed.
