The proposed development site is located on land approximately 70m south-east of No. 6 Main Street, Camlough, Co. Armagh, and concerns the construction of a new house with garage, and access road. An area of archaeological potential has been defined within the village of Camlough, by the Banbridge/Newry and Mourne Area Plan (Draft) 2015 and the proposed development lies within this area. The site lies within an archaeologically sensitive area with twelve recorded archaeological sites and six industrial sites within a 1.5km radius. The sites range in date from the Early Christian to post-medieval periods, in addition a flax mill and associated mill-race, millpond and sluice were all located within the immediate vicinity of the proposed development.
Five test-trenches were excavated on the site across the areas encompassing the proposed access road and the footprints of the proposed dwelling and garage. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
