An archaeological evaluation was carried out at 39 Cathedral Road, Armagh, at the site of a proposed development. A total of three test-trenches were mechanically excavated across the area of the site available for assessment.
The two trenches excavated within the main area of the development revealed a modern feature containing a flint artifact and a post-medieval pit containing roof slate fragments, burnt limestone and animal bone. The third trench excavated along a proposed access route to the site revealed a possible mid-19th-century roadway to St Patrick’s RC Cathedral as depicted on the OS map of 1857.
