The proposed development is situated on the north-western outskirts of Lisburn and will result in the erection of terraced, detached and semi-detached dwellings with associated infrastructure and areas of landscaping. There are 21 known archaeological sites within a 1.5km radius of the development, one of which is an enclosure site (ANT064–055), to the immediate south of the central southern edge of the main area of the proposed development. There are a further four possible enclosure sites in the near vicinity.
The archaeological investigations for Phase 1 took place on 26 October 2010 and involved the topsoil-stripping of one small area totalling approximately 300m². This revealed that the area had been used to deposit building rubble some time in the recent past as evidenced by the presence of a 0.1–0.2m thick layer of modern red-brick rubble and mortar spread over subsoil in the southern part of Area 1. An extensive modern drainage network was also present in the area investigated. There were no archaeological deposits uncovered.
