Located to the south-east of Cargan in County Antrim, the existing waste water treatment works and access lane have been undergoing a programme of upgrading. This site is subtriangular, measuring approximately 55m west to east by approximately 50m north-north-west to south-south-east at its widest point. The works is currently accessed by a laneway, approximately 120m long, which runs west from the Gortnageeragh Road.
There are six recorded archaeological sites within a 1km radius, including an ecclesiastical site and a holy well, with four other sites located just outside the search parameter. None of these sites is located within the boundaries of the proposed development; however, due to the archaeological sensitivity of the area, monitoring of topsoil removal was required. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
