A programme of testing was undertaken in nine specified locations along the route of the proposed N11 Rathnew to Arklow road improvement scheme. This phase of testing was undertaken to identify any previously unknown archaeology in specified areas previously unavailable during the main phase of testing undertaken during 2005 (A022–01 to A022–014).

Test-trenching took place on 21–30 May 2009. Three burnt-mound sites were uncovered (Cranagh, Ballyclogh North and Ballinclare) and subsequently excavated by Gill McLoughlin; see No. 854 (E4054, Ballinclare), No. 855 (E4053, Ballyclogh North) and No. 858 (E4055, Cranagh, Excavations 2009.
