Judith Carroll & Company Ltd was contracted in 2008 by the Office of Public Works, on behalf of Westmeath County Council, to carry out monitoring of the groundworks associated with the flood-relief works on the Brosna River in Mullingar, Co. Offaly. As the river was partly situated within WM019–089, Mullingar town, and in close proximity to the former location of the Mullingar town walls, it was necessary to obtain ministerial consent before the works could proceed.
Works at the river commenced+in early 2009 and were monitored during the summer months of this year. No finds or features of archaeological significance came to light during the construction works. Work on the river is ongoing.
