The proposed development involves the modification of the existing Glanbia Foods depot and the construction of a large storage yard and dry goods shed, drainage works, access routes and ancillary works. Seven trenches were excavated measuring
565.7 linear metres in total length. These revealed a possible cattle access for drinking water and sherds of post-medieval red earthenware and red brick in Trench 1; a sherd of post-medieval glazed-red earthenware in Trench 2; a shallow spread of stones and post-medieval pottery in Trench 3; modern agricultural furrows in Trench 4; and a field boundary, or small ditch, containing disarticulated animal bone and one sherd of modern pottery in Trench 7. Activity within this site is of low archaeological significance and primarily associated with post-medieval and modern agricultural activities. The spread of stones in Trench 3 may have been deliberately dumped as refuse, or may be associated with the levelling of depressions in the field by the landowner in recent years.
