Testing was carried out in February 2009 with the aim of identifying the extent of a possible early road surface initially identified by The Archaeology Company in 2006 (05E0839). This feature is located within the path of a proposed pipeline associated with the Waterford group villages sewerage scheme and is also located within the constraint associated with the historic village of Stradbally (WA024–060). Four trenches were excavated around the location of the previously identified surface. A continuation of the surface was identified in three of the trenches, although the fourth trench had been subject to a large amount of disturbance due to the insertion of service pipes. No dating evidence was obtained from the excavations, but it is possible that the deposit represents an early metalled road surface. No other features of archaeological potential were identified.
