The site for a proposed house extension in Stradbally, within 70m of the ruined medieval church, was tested in November 2009. The site is close to Church Lane, suspected of being (in part) the medieval main street of the town. The site is on the shoulder of a hill, and had been substantially truncated into bedrock. The only features encountered in the two test-trenches were planting holes and boundary/drainage ditches. No medieval pottery was recovered, and the absence of burnt soil, charcoal, and burnt stones in the features is particularly surprising if this was part of the medieval town.
