Test-trenches were opened on the imprint of a proposed house at Ballinraod. The site is just outside the constraint area for a graveyard c. 50m to the south-west. As a house occupied the site, it was only possible to test around the house, at two locations.
Two trenches were opened within the site, to the front and back of the house. A distinct step was present within Trench 1, whilst the rear garden level was considerably lower than the neighbouring one. Local information has stated that this site was used as a quarry until the mid-20th century and it was then backfilled to accommodate housing. This is confirmed by the 1841 first-edition OS map, which denotes there was a quarry at this site, and is endorsed by the presence of redeposited topsoil in the underlying deposits of Trench 1. No archaeological features were revealed in either trench.
