Test-trenching works were undertaken on 5–7 January 2009 at Coolnagard Upper, Omagh. The current development proposal provides for the construction of c. 105 dwellings, to include all road infrastructure, landscaping and services. Although the site lies within an archaeologically sensitive area, no archaeological artefacts, deposits or remains were identified during testing works within the boundaries of the site, in addition to portions of old field boundaries within the northern and central portions of the site. Moreover, the greenfield nature of the site and relatively deep topsoil would suggest that the preservation potential of any subsoil-cut features would be high in spite of some evidence of deep agricultural ploughing along the hilltop. Therefore, it seems unlikely that there were ever archaeological deposits on the site which do not now survive.
