It is proposed to extend the outdoor museum at the Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh. The development will consist of regrading land to re-create a scaled replica of the Appalachian Mountains.
The development was divided into two stages. Stage 1 consisted of a topsoil-strip in the fields concentrated along the eastern half of the proposed development, while Stage 2 involved the removal of the peat bog in the western half of the site. During the course of the topsoil-strip a number of areas of potential archaeological interest were identified in the eastern half of the Stage 1 phase of the project. Further investigation of these features revealed a burnt mound of Bronze Age date and a number of isolated features of uncertain date or function. Archaeological resolution of this development site has now been completed.
