Monitoring was undertaken of street renewal works along part of Dominic Street, Cashel. Dominic Street is located to the north of Cashel town centre, beside St Dominic’s Abbey, a national monument. The works entailed trenching, 2m wide and 0.3m deep, although occasionally reaching 0.5m in depth. Much of the works stayed within the road build-up. The remnants of an earlier cobbled surface were uncovered which dated to the late 19th century. Regarding the area monitored beside the abbey, it became evident, through the presence of the foundation cut at a depth of 0.2m below present ground level, that archaeological deposits may still be present close to its exterior. Excavations in this area did not extend below the 0.2m level or impact on any archaeological layers/deposits. This is in contrast to other areas of the town, where archaeological deposits tend to be deeper or non-existent, such as along parts of the Main Street.
