A development in Templeboy, Co. Sligo, consists of grading works to be carried out on an existing soccer pitch. It is proposed to remove topsoil and also some subsoil (depths ranging from 0.4–0.6m) across the area of the existing soccer pitch and move soil on to lower ground on the adjacent Gaelic pitch further to the south. A portion of the proposed grading works is located in close proximity to SL012–059, a ringfort, souterrain and possible hut site. The western edge of the development is located c. 5–8m from the base of the enclosing bank around the ringfort. Three test-trenches were excavated in the vicinity of the ringfort at a right angle to the existing field boundary separating the existing soccer pitch from the ringfort. Trenches were orientated east–west and measured 1.5m in width by 30m in length. No archaeological finds or features were uncovered during the course of testing on this scheme.
