Moore Marine was commissioned by Headland Archaeology (Ireland) Ltd to carry out an underwater impact assessment of the construction of the N5 Ballaghaderreen bypass road across a watercourse at Toobracken, Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon. The survey comprised a visual and metal-detection survey of the watercourse and visual inspection of the surrounding area. The work was carried out in October 2009.
There were no RMP sites in the vicinity of the crossing and no previously unrecorded archaeological material was noted. The metal-detection survey recorded only one subsurface contact in the riverbed. The assessment concluded that there was no significant archaeological material at the subject site.
