A second phase of monitoring was undertaken at the site of an extension to this sand and gravel quarry on 16 July 2009, which is near an enclosure site (see Excavations 2008, No. 1026, for earlier monitoring). The site consists of portions of two esker ridges, which run parallel to each other in a northwest/south-east direction. An excavator cleared the site of scrub vegetation and two bulldozers were retained to carry out the topsoil-strip. The topsoil averaged just 0.06m in thickness and overlay grey gravel and orange/brown sand. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted.
