Test excavations took place at the site of a proposed
wastewater-treatment plant in Oldcastle, Co. Meath, on 24 July 2009. Monitoring of geotechnical investigations took place at the same site on 8 May 2009. The proposed development consists of the upgrading of the Oldcastle sewerage system. This scheme involves upgrading of the existing pipeline
network as well as laying new pipelines in greenfield sites and the construction of a new treatment plant on a greenfield site to the south-west of the town. A tracked excavator fitted with a 5ft grading bucket opened five test-trenches across the site of the
proposed treatment plant. Nothing of archaeological interest was found.
