An assessment took place from 7–10 December 2009 of the site of a proposed wind farm at Magheramore, Co. Mayo. The site was located to the south of Knock, Co. Mayo, and over 800m from the nearest RMP site to the west. The proposed wind farm scheme is located within an area known locally as Magheramore Bog; the majority of the proposed site is located upon a peat bog and its associated partly drained wetland and poorly drained semi-improved pasture. A total of nine test-trenches were excavated throughout the site. The trenches in general were excavated along the centre of the proposed access roads, turbines, mast and substation and varied in depth from 0.1m on the edge of the bog to over 4m in places within the bog. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified during the assessment.
