Logboy group water scheme, in conjunction with Mayo County Council, is currently upgrading the water supply distribution infrastructure network in the Logboy and Brickeens districts located to the east of Claremorris and to the south-west of Ballyhaunis in south County Mayo. The scheme involves the laying of c. 15.7km of selected water main. Testing was carried out in the vicinity of four known sites. Testing was carried out in the vicinity of MA0113–03101 and MA0113–03102, a barrow and trackway in the townland of Carrowneden; the pipeline was 20m from this site. Testing was also carried out near MA0102–045, an enclosure in the townland of Carrowneden; the pipeline was located 40m from this site; also near MA0102–033, an enclosure in Carrickat townland; the pipeline was located 40m from this site; and also near MA103–026, an enclosure in Carrownaglogh townland; the pipeline was located 80m from this site. A series of narrow trenches c. 0.5m in width were opened in the vicinity of the above sites in order to identify if there were any archaeological features along the proposed route of the pipe. No archaeological finds or features were uncovered during testing in the vicinity of any
of these sites.
