This excavation licence was taken out to allow phosphate sampling of topsoil by Johanna Ullrich for the purposes of her PhD studies. The sampling was carried out on a 1m grid over the extent of the promontory and did not exceed 0.15m in depth. No artefacts were discovered. Phosphate concentrations were noted but analysis is ongoing. Full details of the results will be available in Johanna’s PhD in UCD and in the report to be furnished to the DoEHLG.
