Monitoring took place in association with the
proposed development of a public house at a site adjacent to the Tholsel, Carlingford, Co. Louth. The proposed development will involve the construction of a two-storey gable extension to the north-west facade of a two-storey residential house and a sunken lounge area in the southern corner of the site. The Tholsel is listed as a national monument as it forms part of the medieval town defences surrounding Carlingford. There will be no impact on the Tholsel itself. Monitoring was carried out on 20 November 2009 and no archaeological features or finds were identified. Further monitoring is due to be carried out in 2010.
