A programme of testing was undertaken at Ardagh, Co. Longford on 15, 20 and 21 January 2009, prior to the proposed five villages waste water sewerage scheme. A total of twelve trenches were mechanically investigated across three test areas. These comprised a greenfield site that will contain a proposed wastewater-treatment works and sections of pipeline passing through the archaeological constraints for two graveyards, LF019–050 and LF019–051, within the roadway. The site of the treatment works was bound to the south by a small stream and was comprised of waterlogged terrain. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the testing.
