Testing took place in the vicinity of a number of monuments as part of an assessment of the Longford regional water supply scheme. A total of nine trenches were opened, eight of which were located within the Lough Kinale–Rathcronan section of the scheme. Two of these eight were located within the area of constraint around LF036–011 (abbey), Abbeylara, a 13th-century Cistercian foundation and a national monument. These trenches were recorded as Test Trenches 2 and 3. They were located in the village of Abbeylara on the south side of the existing road carriage opposite the abbey. No archaeological material was found in these trenches.
