The initial phase of monitoring of a proposed development site at Killaghteen, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, was carried out as a condition of planning. The proposed development consists of the construction of a ground-floor extension to the sides and rear of a dwelling, the addition of a porch to the front of the dwelling and the addition of a railing at the front boundary wall. The proposed development site is located within the zone of archaeological potential for a ringfort (LI036–059). The first phase of groundworks consisting of the excavation of foundations for a boundary wall was monitored in November 2009 and the further works will be undertaken during 2010.
