The proposed development at Gortroe, Newcastle-west, Co. Limerick, consisted of the construction of a service station and associated forecourt, canopy, pumps, restaurant and distributor road. The development site is not located within any zone of archaeological potential. An assessment was requested by the planning authority. A total of eight test-trenches were excavated on the proposed development site. No archaeological finds or features were uncovered during testing.
