An impact assessment was required as further information in a planning application for an individual dwelling at Gleann F$n, Ceann Tr$, Tralee, as the proposed development site was partially located within the zone of archaeological potential for clocháin, KE052–185. Pre-development testing was undertaken as part of the assessment.
No trace of the clochán survives aboveground and records show that ^it was rebuilt as a pigsty’. The Dingle Peninsula Archaeological Survey (J. Cuppage et al., Ballyferriter, 1986) published the site in the ^Destroyed or Unlocated Hut Sites’ chapter. The area is, however, rich in archaeological monuments of the early medieval period, with a particular concentration of clocháin.
Three test-trenches were excavated at intervals of 10m. They were from 20m to 25m long, 1m wide and 0.2–0.5m deep. No potential archaeological features or artefacts were recorded.
