Monitoring of topsoil removal associated with the Milltown sewerage scheme was carried out from 2007 to 2009. A number of potential archaeological features were exposed in the field adjacent to Killagh Abbey (KE047–047/01–06) in Abbeylands townland during monitoring of topsoil removal and were subsequently excavated in July/August 2009. In Trench 1, a number of linear ditches, furrows and pits were excavated, including one pit which produced a sherd of a late 12th–13th-century Saintonge polychrome jug. These features may represent a field system or series of small enclosed fields possibly associated with the abbey. Trench 2 had fewer features, all of which produced finds of a post-medieval date, including a clay-pipe stem and red brick.
