Moore Marine was commissioned by Tarrea Queen Enterprises to carry out an underwater impact assessment of a proposed jetty construction at Tarrea, Kinvara, Co. Galway. The nearest RMP site is over 1km away and there is only one wreck recorded for Kinvara Bay, which is not at the site.
The diver survey was undertaken in June 2009. It recorded that foreshore in this area of the bay comprised steep, well-sorted stone and cobbles, the size of the stones decreasing as the foreshore descended to the underwater zone. Similar to the foreshore area, the underwater zone in this area was relatively steeply sloped when travelling from the foreshore. Its form also changed with the change in depth. In the area of shallows, close to the foreshore zone, the seabed comprised stones, cobbles and gravel. As water depth increased, this stony gravel coverage gradually dissipated to a sandy gravel seabed and ultimately a sandy seabed in the deeper outer sections. Various levels of vegetative cover were noted in the underwater section. Small amounts of kelp and sea lettuce were noted in the shallows.
There were no archaeological deposits, features or materials noted in and around the proposed pontoon construction area or its immediate vicinity.
