Test excavations were carried out on the site of a proposed dwelling-house and associated services at Dalystown Demesne, Loughrea, Co. Galway. Immediately north of the proposed site are the remains of a private burial-ground which was associated with the 18th-century Dalystown House.
Prior to testing, no features of archaeological significance were visible in the area of the proposed
development. Three trenches were mechanically excavated at the site. The stratigraphy revealed consisted of sod and topsoil overlying subsoil which overlay natural gravel layers. No features or artefacts of archaeological significance were uncovered.
