Monitoring of the laying of a gas pipeline was undertaken along an extent of c. 1km on both the South Circular Road and, on the opposite north side of Sarah Bridge, Conyngham Road. The work was undertaken in February 2009 with the assistance of Peter Kerins.
Along the western side of South Circular Road, just south of Sarah Bridge, a 57m-long narrow trench was excavated to a depth of 0.85m, down to the upper surface of a compact heterogeneous made-ground deposit that contained 19th-and early 20th-century material. On Conyngham Road, small directional-drilling pits along its centre were inspected; none achieved a depth greater than 0.8m. A made- or disturbed-ground layer was identified at an average depth of just 0.35m below the present road surface level there, with no datable finds recovered.
