Fingal County Council proposed to demolish the structure known as Ryan’s Pub to expose the curtain wall and chapel of Swords Castle. Due to the structure’s location, and the possibility of the reuse of castle fabric during its construction, all demolition works were carried out under supervision and any disturbed deposits were checked for the presence of metal artefacts with the use of a metal detector. Nothing of archaeological significance was exposed. These works were carried out from August to November 2009.
