Ground-breaking works associated with the insertion of the Bord G$is pipeline from the US Ambassador’s residence to Chesterfield Road were monitored. The pipeline ran from the north of the Ambassador’s residence along the grass margin at the southern edge of the driveway, across Acres Road and then through an area of grass before crossing Chesterfield Road and running along the grass margin at the northern edge of the road. A uniform soil profile was identified; between 0.25m and 0.35m of topsoil overlaid subsoil. Sherds of 19th-and 20th-century pottery were present in the topsoil, but no other archaeological finds or features were identified. Much of the excavated areas had been disturbed previously for the insertion of services and nothing of archaeological note was identified during monitoring.
