Testing as part of the advance works on the proposed route of the Metro North light rail project was carried out on behalf of the Railway Procurement Agency. For the purposes of these works the Metro North route was subdivided into fourteen testing areas. Testing Area 1 was located in Belinstown and Lissenhall Little townlands, Co. Dublin, at the site of the proposed Belinstown depot.

Testing of Area 1 was carried out on 15 September 2009. A total of 47 test-trenches were excavated in three fields and no features of archaeological significance were identified. Features of archaeological potential noted in the geophysical survey were identified as the remains of late post-medieval and modern agricultural activity. One lithic artefact was recovered from the topsoil.
