Testing as part of the advance works on the proposed route of the Metro North light rail project was carried out on behalf of the Railway Procurement Agency. For the purposes of these works the Metro North route was subdivided into fourteen testing areas. Testing Area 3 was located in Belinstown townland, Co. Dublin, at the site of the proposed Belinstown depot.
Testing of Area 3 was carried out on 12 October 2009. A total of 72 test-trenches were excavated in two fields and two areas of archaeological were identified as follows.
Belinstown 6
Belinstown 6 comprised one circular pit measuring 0.82m in diameter and 0.11m deep containing heat-affected stone and charcoal.
Belinstown 7
Belinstown 7 comprised one circular pit, measuring 1.2m in diameter and 0.3m in depth, containing heat-affected stone and charcoal, two curvilinear features and one shallow burnt spread.
