Test-trenching was carried out in response to a request for more information in relation to proposed development works adjacent to DOW057–001, a motte. Test-trenching was limited by the number of sewer pipes and a septic tank which existed at the site but, however, did reveal the site to consist of 0.5–1m-deep overburden deposits overlying natural sand-dune deposits. One archaeological feature was identified during testing, the shallow remains of a charcoal-rich pit cut into the natural sand-dune deposits. In the absence of datable finds from this feature, its origin and function remains uncertain and therefore further archaeological attendance in relation to development works is recommended.
