It is proposed to construct a new school in the grounds of St Patrick’s Grammar School, Downpatrick, Co. Down. A desktop survey revealed that the proposed development site is located in an area of archaeological interest. Monitoring of topsoil removal for the footprint of the new school was conducted. This revealed that, while the location of the site is clearly in an area of tremendous archaeological potential, previous levelling works associated with the laying of the football pitch has destroyed any archaeological evidence that may have been present here.
