It is proposed to construct a new farm dwelling at lands adjacent to and immediately west of 26 Ballynahatten Road, Kilkeel. The development will include associated hard-standing and landscaping. A total of four test-trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development using a back-acting mechanical digger fitted with toothless bucket.
The archaeological evaluation indicated that the proposed development site has been heavily disturbed in the recent past. It is believed that this disturbance was due to the construction and demolition of the Greencastle Aerodrome in this area but that no discernible structures relating to this period of use survive to be identified. No evidence of archaeological deposits was identified during the course of the evaluation.
