As part of a programme of extension to the church hall and graveyard of St Mary’s Church, Macosquin, the site of the medieval Cistercian monastery of Clarus Fons, the CAF were asked by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency to carry out monitoring of groundworks at the church hall and to excavate two evaluation trenches, 30m by 1m, at the proposed site of the graveyard extension. The monitoring and evaluations were carried out over a number of separate dates in autumn 2009. No archaeological features or artefacts were found during either the monitoring or the digging of the evaluation trenches.
