Monitoring of topsoil-stripping works associated with the construction of a temporary car-parking area was undertaken during June and July 2009 in relation to the proposed extension and development of the site of the North West Independent Hospital, Main Street, Drummond, Ballykelly.
The temporary carpark area is located in the north-east portion of the proposed development site within an area of lawn. Monitoring of primary ground-reduction works revealed that the proposed carpark area was covered with a 0.2–0.3m-deep layer of topsoil which was overlain within the north and north-east portions of the area by a 0.6–1.1m-deep layer of infill material containing large quantities of modern building materials/site refuse which was in turn overlain by a further 0.2m–0.3m-deep layer of topsoil. No archaeological features, remains or deposits were identified during this phase of monitoring works at the site.
