Excavation at Roxborough townland, Co. Cork, was carried out along the route of the Curraleigh West to Midleton gas pipeline. This site was identified during monitoring of topsoil-stripping of the construction corridor. Two adjacent areas where potential archaeological features were identified were cleaned, and a small site consisting of two small pits filled with cremated bone and charcoal were identified.
The pits were located on flat land c. 90m north of the Dungourney River. Other possible features in the vicinity were found to be the result of planting and burrowing, and no other archaeological features were identified in association with the pits. Radiocarbondating produced a Late Bronze Age date for this site.
No artefacts were identified during the excavation of this site.
