The proposed development involves the construction of a 30m telecommunications support structure, equipment cabinet, fencing and associated site works, as part of the government’s National Broadband Scheme. Three trenches were excavated in a northeast/south-west orientation, each measuring c. 11m long and 1.9m wide. These revealed a thin layer of almost black topsoil with much slightly decomposed shale throughout. Four linear furrows were discovered in the trenches, in a similar orientation to the field boundaries depicted on the first-edition OS map and are not considered to be archaeological in nature.
