Testing was undertaken at Maryville, Kilfenora, Co. Clare, prior to a proposed house extension on 19 March 2009. The area of proposed development is located c. 1km north-east of Kilfenora within a landscape rich in archaeological heritage. The site is located within the RMP constraint for a field system (CL009–059001), within which there are 101 recorded monuments. The proposed development site is located between a ringfort (CL009–059003) and a possible enclosure site (CL009–059002), located c. 18m east and c. 35m west of the proposed development area respectively.
A total of three trenches were mechanically investigated across the footprint of the proposed extension site. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered during the programme of testing.
