Testing was undertaken in April 2009 at the site of a proposed residential development. The site is located
c. 2km to the north of the centre of Cavan town and forms part of a larger residential estate known as Drumgola Wood. There is an enclosure site located c. 50m to the east of the development area. The area of the monument is very overgrown and there are no visible surface traces.
The work was undertaken in compliance with a condition included in the grant of planning for the construction of twelve townhouses. A total of twelve trenches of varying lengths and orientations were excavated within the boundaries of the development area and nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered.
