NI Water proposes to construct a strategic trunk mains from Castor Bay to Dungannon. The pipeline will extend over an area of c. 36km across open fields and in places along the existing road network. Typically two back-actors, fitted with toothless buckets, worked in close proximity to remove topsoil along the route of the pipeline.
Groundworks on this project is still ongoing, yet concentrations of archaeology have been identified along the route of the pipeline. Thus far five burnt-mound spreads, of varying size, two small ring-ditches, two probable raths, a kiln and a cobbled surface have been uncovered during the topsoil-strip.
