An excavation took place during June 2006 in advance of the construction of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road improvement scheme. Prior assessment (Valerie J. Keeley Ltd, 2005) and centreline test-trenching was carried out by Margaret Gowen & Co. Ltd in 2006. During excavation, a charcoal-stained feature was discovered to be topsoil that had filled a natural depression and was therefore non-archaeological in nature, probably the result of root disturbance. No evidence of any cut was present and the feature was very irregular in plan. Large quantities as described in the testing report were not found, nor were there any signs of burning in situ.
