Testing was carried out at Barrowmount townland, Goresbridge village, Co. Kilkenny, in May 2009. The proposed development site is located south of Goresbridge. It comprises the construction of 24 detached dwelling-houses and associated works.
At the landowner’s request, Phase 1 was concentrated on excavating two trenches along the northern and western boundary of the site to lessen the impact on a recently sown crop. Both trenches were excavated by a 20-tonne track machine down to natural levels. Neither trench contained any material of archaeological significance.
Following consultations with Mark Keegan, it was agreed that a second phase of testing be carried out at a later date to complete the assessment of the development area.
