The proposed development concerned the laying of a new water pipeline along the south and south-east of Ballymena, Co. Antrim. Only a 900m stretch of the pipeline route, located between the Larne Road roundabout and Crebilly Road, had an archaeological mitigation attached to the development. Monitoring was therefore carried out along this part of the route between March and June 2009.
Although no recorded archaeological site lay within the actual pipeline corridor, the route lay within an archaeologically sensitive landscape, with a souterrain (ANT038–041) and a mill (IHR 6916) located c. 120m and 350m east of the water pipeline, respectively. No deposits of archaeological potential were uncovered during the monitoring of this pipeline.
